The present invention relates to a multi-function smart-grid unit for saving energy and a method for operating same, in which a separate digital power meter, serially connected to a mechanical power meter, is installed inside the home of a household, and a standby-power outlet is connected to one or a part of one wall power outlet installed on a wall surface, thus allowing the standby-power to be reduced by means of the standby-power outlet to be of help to the home, and the electrical energy consumed by the household within a set area to be easily measured as well as the potential electrical energy consumption within a set area to be predicted by means of the digital power meter to allow electrical energy production to be easily planned.

The present invention relates to an energy management apparatus enabling efficient smart grid system construction by enabling interworking with a pre-constructed home automation system, and a method of registering devices of same.
